Our Week in Fredericton

Immediately after returning from my roadtrip, Pan and I repacked and were off to Canada the very next afternoon. 8 weeks after our stay in Farmington with the Zimmermann family, it was time to introduce Lara to the Shanbhag's and to show her a little bit of East Coast hospitality.

The first day home allowed me a little time to rest after the road trip. We had nothing on the agenda except a run along the Saint John river. Fredericton was supposedly on the tail end of rain storms; thankfully we had missed the worst of it. When our plane was landing the day before, we could see a few areas with minor flooding ... unlike I had ever seen before though.

On Day 2, it was time for the touring to begin. Just like Pan showed me in Connecticut, I took her around town to show her the schools I went to. The first stop was Liverpool elementary. Since school was only a couple weeks out from starting all the buildings were open and we could go inside and look around, something I hadn't done since leaving each of these schools. The next stop was George St Junior High (now Middle School) and finally Fredericton High School.

On Wednesday, Dad decided to treat us all to dinner at Mexicali Rosa's (one of Fredericton's few good restaurants). Below are pictures at the house, in mom's garden, that we took before heading out. Pan had a big strawberry daiquiri and therefore the pictures from after dinner aren't for the Internet.

Parag and I took Larapan to Parlee Beach in Shediac, NB on Thursday. I clearly remember the beach being bigger, the water being clearer, and the sand being whiter when we were younger, but that seems to be the case with everything back home now.

We finally got in for a swim at Queen's Square outdoor pool on Friday. The weather ended up being beautiful all week long. After lunch we took some pictures of the house and the scenery. The first picture is the view from the front, along Kimble drive and the second is on the porch looking out over the Saint John river.

Lara also really wanted to get pictures of my room since mom had left it the way I decorated it almost 10 years ago. Yes, I am a big fan of Spiderman. Lara almost ate Haagen-Dazs in that first picture.

Finally on Saturday we got around to seeing Fredericton's biggest attraction ... the Big Potato. This is actually a vegetable stand with a very visible mascot. When Parag and I were little we thought the Big Potato was over a 100ft high, you can see why in the second picture.

Parag left to go back to school in the Netherlands on Monday evening and we had to leave for Champaign on Tuesday morning. We did wake up early enough to head to the store and see dad in action.

Thanks Mom and Dad, we both had a wonderful week at home.

Love,

Maneesh & Lara
